Number of Children at Border Hits Record High

CDC extends border restrictions.

U.S. immigration authorities report the number of children traveling alone who were picked up at the U.S.-Mexico border hit an all-time high in July. The number of people who came in families likely reached its second-highest total on record.

The sharp increases from June were striking because crossings usually abate during stifling, and sometimes fatal, summer heat. Border activity overwhelmingly concentrated in the Border Patrol’s Del Rio and Rio Grande Valley sectors in south Texas.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention meanwhile extended an order limiting entry into the U.S. of noncitizens looking to cross the country’s northern and southern land borders due to concern over spreading coronavirus, while officials have claimed the order had often been ignored in the past. The extension comes amid claims that migrants with COVID-19 are being released into the U.S.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For CBP agents at the border dealing with the surging influx of migrants.
  • For the children who are being sent to the U.S. without parents or guardians.
  • For discernment for HHS officials in dealing with the spread of COVID-19 among the migrant groups.
